I wanted to vote for 2013 NC but to avail postal voter facilities;
the process seemed hard when one is already over burdened with academic works
as a student. Does any one take care of
students abroad? Does scholarship
division or department of adult and higher education rolls towards the right of
the students abroad to vote as well? Do they
do anything to enable students abroad about voting? What is the actual number
from students abroad voted for NC 2013? I did not vote for NC 2013 because it
was already late for registration because we did not get to know about when
this should be done. Almost all of the
students who are abroad are degree and masters students which are by no doubt
an eligible voter. What does election commission do towards making the voters
come closer? Is it not ECB’s obligation to make voters easier to vote for their
leaders? The voter turnout this year was
less than previous and it was less than half of the total eligible voters. Why this
happened?
1)
NC seemed
not so important house to some voters
2)
Some did not have VPIC and some forgot to bring
or some mistook the card
3)
Some could not vote because of their dressings
4)
Most could not go to their polling stations
neither could avail postal vote.
5)
Many students could not vote-students abroad
also.
Who should educate voters? Every one talks about right to vote and at the
same time, every one should know that it’s our duty to vote for our leader. If not
us who will? As a student in foreign land I tried getting postal ballot but, it
was already late and I even did not clearly knew how to apply it. Many of my
friends too shared me same words, they wanted to vote but left behind just
because they did not know how to apply or we were just totally lost of information’s.
Is it our failure as a citizen or is it
ECB or concerned institutions that should make us know what is happening in our
country, such as election. Some of the
students abroad knew the elections from a candidate. What does it mean? Only means
by which students abroad can know is by getting access to online news but to
get access to internet is rare in institutions and on top of it the online news
is a grain in a sack of rice, very limited information. Most of all, how to
apply and avail postal ballot is the point. Many were left behind just because they were
unaware of applying.
