The Age of Consensus

Lets not bring this uncertified scientific theories found in the google which says brain development goes upto 25yrs. For now it is very important to be practical as spoken by Honorable MP Norbu Wangzom.

In the court of law, if a boy has committed sexual affairs with girl below 18 even if the girl confesses as mutual and it is under consent, the boy has to go behind bars because our law says, it is crime of 3rd degree felony where the prison term ranges from 5-9yrs. Aren't our lawmakers criminalising males too vaguely and severely?

How much do we need to respect the right of our teenagers? It is not making free sex atmosphere but the question of criminalising someone for their biological matters. I can't imagine how our secondary & high school kids get into relationships. We all know that. Our law demands our girls virgin till 18. Lets not messup educational requirement and legal requirement. It is important to educate our  daughters not to conduct sexual affairs because of several risks like cervical cancer, teenage pregnancy, other social problems etc but how can we cut out their right and criminalise them?

It seems that at last it boils down to the time when our daughters are being able to decide for themselves. At what age? With technologies and social development there are better ways to educate our children on sex subjects. Should not we help them to enhance their deciding ability, through education but not by law. It is evident many of our grand parents, parented child before 18. But I am not pursuing our young girls to mother a child. It is about their sexual matters before 18. Basically our law commands our daughters to conduct sexual relationship only by the age of 18 even if it is by mistake. And our boys must ask for ID card before conducting sexual affairs with ladies.

And we are telling those boys locked up are a tiny problem. Criminals indeed is in the Assembly Hall who says boys who conduct sexual intercourse with a girl of age below 18 who has agreed to have it done, is a criminal. Is taking two years down too much? If a girl of 17 conducts sexual relationship with a boy of 17, so we criminalise them both. What a Law?
